Tasman Revival - teaser

Repco Revives Formula 1 Glory

November 28-30, 2008

As the only Australian company to ever power its way to two Formula 1 World Championships, Repco holds a unique place in motor sport history. Now the company has announced its support of an event which will see the legendary Repco-Brabham name again racing for victory.

At the Tasman Revival meeting, to be promoted by the Historic Sports and Racing Car Association at the Eastern Creek International Raceway in November, several dozen Repco-Brabham single-seater racing cars will be on the track. Still thrilling to watch and to hear its memorable exhaust note, the Repco V8 engine powered Sir Jack Brabham and Dennis Hulme to F1 World Championships in 1966 & 1967.

The Repco V8 F1 engine remains a brilliant example of Australian engineering and determination - qualities which have seen the 80-year old Repco company expand to its present day position of operating 400 stores with 4000 employees in Australia and New Zealand.

President of the NSW-based Historic Sports and Racing Car Association, Peter Addison, said he is delighted Repco is supporting the Tasman Revival, as it creates a great opportunity to remind Australian and overseas enthusiasts how an Australian company beat the world's best - not once, but twice.

In all, some 150 superbly restored single seater racing cars, including such famous marques as Brabham, Lotus, Lola, Cooper, Ferrari, BRM and McLaren, will take part.

The nostalgic re-enactment of the Tasman Series will revive thrilling memories of the ‘60's and ‘70's when such drivers as Brabham, Moss, Clark, Hill, McLaren, Stewart, Rindt and Hulme battled wheel to wheel with local stars including Leo Geoghegan, Frank Matich, Frank Gardner, Kevin Bartlett, Lex Davison and Greg Cusack in a series of races in Australia and New Zealand. Re-creating the era will be an expected entry of 400 plus cars with sports and sedan classes including the never ending appeal of Minis, Mustangs, XU1 Toranas and Ford Falcon GT's.

The Tasman Revival meeting will be run over three days - 28, 29 & 30 November - at Sydney's Eastern Creek International Raceway, with Sunday 30th seeing a major race for every category from this golden era of Australian motorsport.
